The Top 10 Lists



To help me reflect and summarize my PC service here are some top ten lists regarding my time in Namibia. Later on I'll write something in the 5 paragraph essay mold

 
10 Weirdest/Craziest Occurrences 

1. Purchased a goat in the school’s staff room.

2. Got picked up on a hitch hike by the Director of Tourism of Namibia.

3. Shared a house by the beach for a week with 24 other volunteers, the house was only supposed to fit 8. 

4. For about 6 months I was bathing in a river. Then the crocodiles came and I stopped. 

5. Listened Damara, San, and Nama people speak, this is the click language where a lot of words have two or more clicks.

6. Had a girl in my class run out because someone was bewitching her.

7. Had two geckos living under my bed. I gave them names (Lady Gaga and Godzilla) and they became close friends. 

8. Had dysentery and lost 15-20 pounds in a week. 

9. Went black mamba hunting with a spear. 

10. Went on an 8 day 120 km hike into the bush and saw leopard prints and animal carcasses on the trail. 

10 Coolest Things I’ve Done 

1. Skydiving 

2. Bungee jumping

3. Going on 3 safaris

4. Paddled a kayak to Angola 

5. Slaughtered two goats and a chicken

6. Ran a half marathon with sand dunes on one side and the ocean on the other 

7.  Brought water and internet to my village 

8. Went on a boat cruise where I saw Nile Crocodiles and hippos 

9. Traveled to Zambia, Malawi, and Cape Town 

10. Lived in a village for two years and overall had a good time. 

10 Most Beautiful Things I’ve Seen 

1. Sand dunes in Sossusvlei 

2. The view from the plane that we skydived from on the sand dunes and ocean on Swakopmund

3. Sunset at my village

4. Lake Malawi

7. The children that follow me when I go running in the evenings

8. Mrs. Boipuso and her daughter Doreen when they smile 

9. Watching the sunset while playing basketball on a village court

10. Kavango River 

10 Things I will Miss 

1. Sunsets

2. Stars

3. Volunteer reunions 

4. Lunch at the open market in Rundu

5. Pizza dinners 

6. Being different and having everyone be curious about you. (A bit contradictory with #8 in things I will not miss, but it’s just how it goes)

8. My colleagues at school 

9. Hot showers after months of bucket bathing or cold showers
  
10. Going through crazy/bad/good experiences and realizing that I was going to have some great stories at the end of it all. 

10 Things I will not miss

1. Being bored and lonely in the village

2. Transport 

3. Snakes 

4. 10 straight months of sun (not a single cloud, its too much!)

5. Teaching 

6. Traveling 140 km to buy food

7. Pooping in the bush 

8. Being stared at everywhere I go 

9. Waiting in “lines” 

10. Sand everywhere
